Dampers....

Well I have been watiing for someone to post this up so i wouldn't be the only one starting thraeds here !

What's your take about the FIA banding these sophisticated dampers that the Renos/RB/Ferrari have developed ?

I honestly do not like it, why change the rules in the middle of the season! Specially when Ferrari seem so strong now! ( being bias of course)..But in the possitive side, i think it will make the races much closer, and give McLaren a chance to win. Acording to some articles without these dampers, it effects the whole aero package of the car, and mechanical grip that it slows down the Renos by .2-.3 of a sec per lap !

F1...i thought it was suppose to be the pinnacle of motorsport ? More like pinnacle of my a** ...basicly engis can develope anything now days... someone shoot Max already !

This sort of thing happens all the time... someone finds a novel way of interpreting a rule, and the FIA bans it after a few races. I don't think it is the FIA changing the rules midseason, really. And I don't think it hinders technological advance... if anything it promotes it, because then the real breakthroughs are paradigm shifts, not just continuous improvements.

Yes it encourages new technology that meats the FIA standars but i think it takes away the enginners creativity in being extreme and comming out with 'new exclusive' ideas. I read an article a month or two back, and if i recall right-if the FIA did not impose all these rules. In a circuit like Montereal, an F1 car would be running close to 1 minute a lap.

I 1980, the FIA banned the Brabham BT46 "Fan" car after one race (Swedish GP). So, yes, they ban innovation at mid season. Talk about a huge investment obsoleted in a fortnight.
