Turkish GP Thread

What are your predictions?

One of the latest headlines is "Hamilton splits Ferraris as Webber shunts" in Friday practice

Btw, with the demise of Super Aguri, "five cars instead of six will be eliminated at the end of each of the first two parts of qualifying. Beginning at Sunday's Turkish Grand Prix, 10 cars will still race for pole position in the final 10-minute phase."

So Massa again on pole in Istanbul.

Interestingly, both McLarens split the two Ferraris, with Heikki outpacing Lewis and the two of them putting Kimi into 4th.

Kubica again the best of the rest, and gaining much more out of the BMW than his teammate.

Btw, Kubica was 2nd fastest in Q2. If we can assume everyone is running light in Q2 (they have to refuel for starting ahead of Q3, right?), then that's a very good sign for the pace of the F1.08

Alonso and Webber also did well

Bizarre start, with one side of the grid being able to get away much better than the other.

LH executed his 3-stop strategy well, finishing apparently ahead of his own team's expectations. Not a great weekend for Kimi, outqualified and outraced by his under-rated teammate.

Massa now ties LH for 2nd in the WDC, with both 7 points behind Kimi.

BMW finish 4-5, very good points wise, but not quite on the pace this weekend. Alonso and his Renault again best of the rest

Massa is very fast as long as he doesn't have anyone in front of him hence his record of winning races from pole. The minute he gets behind someone he screws up. Kimi played his role correctly, when you lead the points you shouldn't take too many risks. I just hope that Renault does some more improvement to their car to get Alonso in the mix.

no the harder compound on all the cars except the ferrari was the right choice.

You're missing the point perhaps? The best car, of that weekend, was using the softer compound. MM and the other teams wanted to use it, but their chassis were much harder on the tyres and they were getting "graining" on the soft compounds.

So, softer compound was the way to go - if you could safely/reliably use it. Isn't that why it was thought MM would use it on their 3rd/last stint?

im pretty sure that ferrari were playing safe with the softer compound. especially that they were testing with it the during the weekend. They didnt collect enough data with the harder compound, and since they dont have any previous data about that track with the given tempreture they decided to go with the softter compound.
