No more F1 in North America

The Canadian Gran Prix has been dropped from the 2009 calendar....

Bernie Ecelstone may you rot in hell and be raped by 10,000 demons. You money grubbing POS. Canada's GP this year had record attendence all weekend, since many americans had to travel up to montreal since they got rid of our GP, now we will all have to travel to england or brazil.

The new schedule

2009 FIA Formula One World Championship:
29 March Australia
5 April Malaysia
19 April Bahrain
10 May Spain
24 May Monaco
7 June Turkey
21 June Great Britain
28 June France
12 July Germany
26 July Hungary
23 August Europe (Valencia)
30 August Belgium
13 September Italy
27 September Singapore
11 October Japan
18 October China
1 November Brazil
15 November Abu Dhabi

Australia will probably be the next race to go.

That really sucks... Canadian Gp was a great driving trip from Long Island... Great weekend I did not hear that the venue was even in jeopardy? What went wrong, the circuit is pretty decent also... Joseph

It was rumored earlier this year Canada would be dropped, as ecelstone wanted them to invest some absurd amount of money or become a night race.

Its even worse! Bernie wants to standardize all engines by the year 2010! There was a talk I think by Max on standardizing the gearboxes as well. What a foolish move that would be, they will throw away all the manufacturers and bring small teams in. It would be an absolute joke to label the cars Ferrari, McLaren Mercedes, BMW, Toyota, Honda etc if the power-train is the same in all of them! It would defeat the purpose of their very existence in the sport. If that happens I am afraid that they will turn F1 to another GP2.

I am in a love hate place with this. I'm seriously wondering if I need to put my motorsport attentions on a domestic series.

I feel as if we are simply being left in the dust for the oil money. I may go log onto Speed.tv to read the boards, but I'm afraid by the end I'll have picked up a torch and shovel as well.

Dude just say no to NASCAR, its horrendous. I went to a race and i wish i could have those six hours back. It gets to a point where there is a car passing every 5 seconds and you never know who is in first.

It is hard to believe that the automobile manufaturers that sell cars in North America (Mercedes, BMW, Ferrari, Honda, Toyota, etc.) and race in Formula One for advertising purposes, would not be pushing to have at least one race in North America. On the other hand, it is understandable that the organizers in the USA and Canada are not willing to accept these unrealistic demands by Bernie and Max.
At least we have 2 choices in Canada, to either watch Speed or the British live transmissions. If only David Hobbs would not keep interrupting his co-commentators...

We had 8 wonderful years at Indianapolis, some of the best seats on the track (my opinion). I was ready to try for Canada tickets, and now this? ! ? I have read the teams told Bernie that they wanted an American race. I vote for indianapolis again. I was in LasVegas in March, and read about their plan for a F1 track. It was a partial road course in the old downtown, then build a short piece of track for the pits. I visited the proposed track area, and I thought it lacked a lot to be a practical location for a track, especially after watching the singapore race. (My opinion as a spectator).
I also read that some of the teams had contemplated leaving the FIA, and start another F1 group. Now I hope they seriously consider it. I have always thought F1 was suppose to be the latest and best in technology and engineering, not cookie cutter vehicles. I hope Bernie get sand in his shorts, and many other things I can't say in public.
