'95 e320 Check engine light

Greetings,

Getting the dreaded CEL. I check the code retrival and it flashed (6) times indicating "Idle speed control inoperative" it makes sense because the idle does adjust to temp. or load and the cruise control is now inoperative. My question is how to check if it's the Cruise control/idle control actuator or the control unit itself. Finally register at this site after visiting numerous times. This is where I learned about the DIY code retrieval. Am looking at a '01 E55, my e320 I've had for over (6) years and am very pleased with it, execpt for this.. Thanks
