Diesel Engines

I'm a Jeep owner and I'm looking at doing a diesel swap into my 95 YJ(that's the wrangler w/ square headlights) and am considering useing a mercedes as the donor for the engine. I was wondering if ya'll could tell me what the specs are on some of the more popular engines. I need something that has high torque and HP at low RPMS for rock crawling. I also don't want to get anything too big. Currently I have a 2.5L 4cyl and those angry little squirrels aren't going to like what I'd put them through after my lift is done. I would like nothing larger than a 6 cyl and possible a 4 cyl w/ a turbo on it or somthing. Any help would be great. I know almost nothing about mercs so help me out if you will. I'll return the favor and answer q's about jeeps

:edit: hmmmmmm, seems as though i'm posted this in the wrong forum......i'll see if i can find the right on to put it in.
