Overheating??

My C180 usually runs at just over 80 but when in stop-go traffic for more than a few minutes it reaches the mark between 80 – 120 (I presume this is 100) and feel that if I was in heavier traffic or a jam it would keep rising. Is this normal?

I did notice that the top hose (non MB-Part) seems to narrow in the centre, its about 1cm x 2.5cm flat?

The coolant was last changed by Benz at 82000 (now 142000) in 2000, should I change it?

The thermostat seems to be opening but as it’s an easy job is it worth changing?

As the C180s have no electric fan is it possible and worth while to fit one?

When in stop-go traffic the needle may go to the "100"-mark (between 80 and 120), but not over. At this moment the fan should start working.

For this moment it is not necessary to change the coolant.

It is not worth changing the thermostat.

It is not worth to fit an additional electric fan. If everything works fine temperature should be under control without fitting extra things.

Those temps do not seem high to me. With that sort of mileage on the car pehaps you ought to think about havuving the radiator cooked out or at least reverse flushed. I would not put a fan on if it was designed without one unless you are towing with the car
