S600 Passenger Side Mirror Problem
The passenger side mirror on the S600 is designed so that the "Joint" can dislocate in the event the mirror hits something. The upper catch, or friction lock, that holds the top of the mirror in position doesn't hold tight enough anymore, so the mirror tips down when going over bumps. When this happens, you can pull straight up on the mirror and it pops back into place, but the next bump in the road will cause it to drop down again.
Is there an adjustment that can be made to increase the holding power, or is a replacement part required? Thanks!
(BTW: the power retraction feature works fine)

Thanks Patrick, I'll check that out. The car is currently 200 miles away from me, so I won't be for a few days.
Does anyone else have ideas or solutions for the 'loose mirror' problem?
Thanks again.

I had same problem with my E -- there is a spring that holds mirror firmly in place. It connects to a plastic clip -- which in my case broke.
$400 to replace internal mirror assembly as the clip that broke is not sold separately.

OK, problem solved. There is a cast metal framework inside the mirror housing that everything attaches to. One corner of that framework was broken. If the framework could have been bought separately, it probably would cost about $10, since there isn't much to it. Unfortunately, MB only sells the entire assembly, which is everything except the plastic housing. My local MB dealership wanted $540. so I called around and found it for $265. It only took about 15 minutes to install. (I could do it again in less than 5 minutes now that I know how it all goes together).
Thanks everyone for the input.
