TPMS Question

This is a repost from E55 forum. I've been having trouble with TPMS on my 2006 E55 since I installed winter wheels. I got new sensors that were not the right sensors for 2006 and I got the "no sensors found" message. Then I got another set which are correct -- the idiot light is off and the "no sensors found" message is gone.
But, after I reactivated the system and the message said the TPMS was activated, it still won't read pressure. Instead it asks if I want to reactivate again. No matter how many times I activate, no pressure readings and it asks if I want to reactivate again.

Some guys responded by saying I have to go to dealer to reset the Star system; others say it will fix itself.

Anybody here have a suggestion on how to get a tire pressure reading?

Thats about all that can be done from your end of it. Take it in and get it checked out. Personally, I have never seen one continue to say to reactivate it.

if you had to simply re-set your original sensors, you could in fact make sure your tire pressures are good and re-activate and it would take care of itself,
but if you purchased 4 brand new sensors, meaning you have 8 wheels with each wheel having its own sensor(4 summer,4 winter), the control module has no clue where these new sensors are supposed to go. this must be programmed by the SDS. and something to take into consideration, you will have to do this everytime you switch from winter to summer tires and visa versa. as the control module cannot learn the difference between the different tire set ups, it will still be looking for what ever it was initially learned to read.

Wow - so, everybody who has a set of winter wheels and a set of summer wheels, with sensors in each, has to visit the dealer twice a year to reset the computer? The computer cleary recognizes the new sensors - when I had no sensors on I got a "no sensors" message. I don't understand why it can recognize the sensors but can't read the pressure.

No matter what sensors you put in each wheel or how many set of wheels you have... tire pressure monitor will relearn the id of the wheel electronics after reactivation.... or for example if you can rotate the tires.

The way you learn the sensors with the sds is mainly used for diag. to see if the sensor is working or the control unit can read the signal. I would say that one or more of the sensors you have is not working or was damaged during install.

Also, the TPMS with the wheel sensors is being phased out. On new models, it is based off of the wheel speed signal. A flat tire spins faster than an inflated tire b/c of the reduced diameter. The new system does not show pressure.
