MAF Mass Air Flow

Got the following codes this weekend:
P0170 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1) ) check vaccum leaks first or
faulty MAF (mass air flow) sensor
P0173 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 2) )

Leading to believe it's a MAF problem. I have been reading threads all day but still have a few questions:

Will the MAF sensor cause rough idle?
Where is it located?
What kind of labor is needed to replace it?
Can it be fixed or should it be replaced?
What happens if you don't replace the unit?
Who has the best price on a new unit?

Thanks

Got a P0170 and P0172 ( fuel trim and bank 1,2). Read up on this message and decided to clean my MAF. It is between air intake and throttle body. It appears to be a simple hot wire anemometer. Cleaned it with solvent (electronic solvent) dried it with canned air. This is a two trip event so I was watching very closely on the trip home from work. No check engine light. Smiling. If I had got a mad MAF code, I would have replaced it. Now, if I could only get my ETS light to go out.
