rear pads 38000 miles c-230 2002

I picked up my car from the dealer for some warranty repairs, and they said while it was in, the brake lining warning came on, and it needs rear pads, it does not seem normal for rear pads to wear out before the fronts, my brake lining warning is still on I have not fixed it yet, I did not think a sensor was on rear pads am I wrong

Your car does have a brake sensor in the back (right side).

When operating the vehicle, have you ever noticed the ! dash indicator illuminate when in decreased traction conditions?

Under those circumstances, the traction control is actuating rear brakes to maintain stability and increasing pad wear.

no the traction control has not really come on hardly at all, any reason the rear brakes would were out before the fronts, I am very suspicious that the brake wear is a result of something wrong, not just wear and tear, the sensor came on at the dealership when they where performing other service.

It's not normal. Do you know how to look at all the pads to check for wear? If not, you should learn because it's easy and will save you grief and anxiety. Some years/models of C class have a sensor on the RR wheel. I'm a pessimist when it comes to believing dealer service departments so "the light came on while it was here" doesn't fly with me.

thanks for the help, it has been a while since I have done brake work, I think I might check them out myself, it is cold here so I am not looking forward to it.
