Oil Gauge goes up to 40# when key is in on position before start

What would cause this? Is it just time to replace sender? Another question on the Becker wiring I have a very small gauge wire in the group going to the speaker outlet plugs. What does this do as I don't know where to wire it in. On a previous instalation this wiring was cut by a stero shop and the origional plug was discarded. Not very happy about that.

1989 300se with speed sensor for volume becker radio. Auto volume control does not function as speed is increased. Maybe this is the microphone wire
or some other part of that system.

Thanks in advance for any ideas.

Jim
