oil change information
(stupid previous owner)from the bottom and once was this completed the guy was unable to take the filter out. Now I know that is a specific tool for the job. Then it got ugly... we had to "change" the oil for a clean one. I told him what syntetic oil I wanted (0w-40) but he said that he was running short of that one and have enough for 1 time, not just to get me going and then to come back and get my oil drained again so he decided to put a different grade adn also I caught him adding left overs of other syntetic grades (same Mobil1 though) I know synt oil blends well but is not the point. They charged me $50 and they told me to come back to get it right. I came back yesterday, different guy, no tool, same results, but this time he scratched the cap,
... what a lesson... anyway... sorry that is not the point of the thread.1) What is the oil filter tool part for my particular car
2) Is that cap supposed to be "that tight"?
3) Should I drain it again because a) is mixed and b) because the old oil filter is still there.
4) Should I sue the guy or just ask him to give me my money back, or go to MB and send him the invoice...
hehehehe... I guess I am going to start doing my own oil change from now on ....
Thanks in advance
I have an '03 E320 so I'll tell you want I've done to your questions:
1) Check with a place like Baum tools or AST as they stock the oil filter cap wrenches. Count up how many flats (flutes) are on the cap and the diameter. My model has 14 flutes with a diameter of 74.4mm
2) There's a torque value for the cap and drain plug. My model are 25Nm and 30 Nm respectively.
3) You could drain it and repeat the process but it's more important to get the old filter out of there!!
4) Don't know -- I'm not a lawyer
I suggest that you repost you question to the appropriate model group -- someone there could probably give the info you need.
By the way, if you don't take your car to the dealer or an indy MB shop, you're most likely better off doing the work yourself!!
Good luck,
Regards,
Paul...
The other issue is that the top load MB filters should always be loosened first (before draining the oil ), as it holds almost a litre up there if you don't. So , you drain your oil- and then loosen the filte, and taadaa...you have a fresh litre of old oil down in the crankcase!!
SO, yes, it needs to be done again..

1) How to reset the computer 03 E500 after the service
2) Went to Baum and don't like their filter 3 finger wrench. Might damage the housing. Have you bought a wrench. Thanks Jim

Sorry for the delay -- just saw your post today.
1) Download the FSS slides from: http://www.mercedestechstore.com/pdfs/index.htm
Look for "219 HO FSS Plus......" under the heading "Files for 219 W211 Training"
Make sure when confirming the FSS you select the 229.5 (if using Mobil 1 0W40) option.
2) The Baum tool you want the #103-0209 cap wrench: 74mm 14 point. That's what I bought. Stay away from the other three-prong wrench. Oil filter cap needs to be torqued to 25Nm. The oil pan plug (if you decide to drain vs siphon) needs to be torqued to 30Nm -- and don't forget to replace the copper washer in the drain plug.
There are people who bought the cheap filter cap wrenches for $3-4 at local auto parts stores, but these are 76mm and don't quite fit (loose). Although they mentioned that the wrench worked OK, I don't want to take any chances with the composite oil cap, so I bought the right tool for the job. I forgot exactly how much I paid for the wrench, but it was in the $20-30 range.
Good luck,
Regards,
Paul....
