Head gasket problem on '95 C280
I have an important question about my 1995 Mercedes C280...
The head gasket is leaking and it's way too pricey to have a mechanic fix it, around $1,500. My dad is really good with cars so he wants to try and repair it himself. We have the parts already. I was wondering if anyone knew exactly how we have to go about fixing it. If anyone knows.. please list some instructions as to how this can be done.. along with how to deal with the timing belt, what specific tools are needed, etc..
So please, if anyone is knowledgeable on this topic please help me out. I'd truly appreciate it. Thanks a lot.

If the dealership price is too much have tried pricing at a good independant shop? Or perhaps a MB tech working at home? The only reason I say this, is there is lots of special tools involved that I certainly wouldn't buy for one time use. Also, certain parts of the job (like getting the front cover on without rolling the front seal) tend to frustrate first-timers.
I would be happy to help you out with some details if he insists on trying it, let me know.

Julie,
This engine has a timing chain ,not a belt, this may give you a better idea of the workings of the engine ; http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb1.asp?TP=1&F=202028&VIN= .
Good luck,
Geo.
