Lubricant for electric antennae

My 1997 C280 has an electric antenna and I'd like to know the best lubricant to use on the shaft to ensure clean operation to avoid straining the motor. I also want to make sure I don't use anything that will weaken or damage the plastic parts within the assembly. Recommendations?

I don't know if it is the best thing to do but I never use a lubricant on my '93 300E antenna mast. I simply wipe it clean with a rag once in a while. Works for me.

I'd clean the antenae with some solvent first. WD-40 works great. Wipe off the excess and coat with a quality bicycle chain lubricant. Try some synthetic dry lube like Pedros or Finishline, less dirt will stick to it. Your local bike shop should carry these brands.

I've had vehicles with electric antenae masts from 1990 up until October of this year. Acura Integras, which are notorious for burning out their electric mast motors. I used silicon spray on them. Wipe clean first, spray on the silicon spray being careful not to spray on paint. I used a rag to shield the overspray. Ran the mast up and down several times to spread the lubricant over all the surfaces. Never lost a motor.
I didn't notice where you live but a bigger danger is ice build up. If it's freezing rain I'd suggest you forgo using your radio!
