Driver's Side Door Lock

Driver's Side Door Lock
My driver's side door lock will not lock or unlock the door with the key. If I use the passenger side or the trunk the door lock works. I have been told since that is the case that the vaccuum actuator is probably okay and it may be the rod to the key mechanism. Any thoughts?
I have been told to pull up the rubber gasket around the door handle to expose an allen screw, but the gasket does not look as if it can be pulled up because it is compressed by the door handle itself. Am I going to have to remove the door panel to expose this problem?
