Transmission Fluid Problem

Hi Guys,
I have a 2003 Mercedes CLK 240, and put it in for a service at an approved garage 6 weeks ago (Transmission Fluid change ect). 5 weeks later my gear box was destroyed and now the same garage wants to charge me $US6000 to fix it. I have proof that the mechanic put fluid specific to the 2005 model in my transmission (as they thought it was that year) but they deny that the transmission fluids of the 2003 model and 2005 model are different. Are the different or the same.
I really need to know this info, cannot find it anywhere. Your help is much appreciated.

John,
Have you called a parts guy at a local MB dealer and ask him which fluid goes with your car? I know my owner's manual for my 03 E320 has a part number in it for ATF in the specification/capacities sections.
Regards,
paul...

Sorry to hear this.
The new developed transmission fluid MB # A001 989 45 03 10 used in 722.9 transmissions can be also used in 722.3/4/5 and in your case 722.6 transmissions, as per MB. What failed was the filter changed.

as a mb tech i can tell you he is right. you can use the 722.9 fluid in any transmission. im my opinion no matter which fluid they used it souldnt of went out in only 5 weeks. they must have done something else wrong. but to answer your question the 05 fluid would work fine. i just got back form trans school a few months ago and that is what they told us. but how many miles is on it and what is it doing. and 6k is kind of high. a reman from benz cant be more than 3500.
