05 SL 600 RENNTECH help!!

Ok, when I drive my SL over 70 mph after about 15 minutes or so the front right side feels as it is coming apart and the steering shakes left to right as if I were off road, but after I stopped to check the tires and made sure everything was still together, I would drive off and the problem is gone.

After the 3rd time it did this I realized all I have to do is come to a complete stop and take off and the rest of our trip is great.

Now I called the dealer and they have no clue what it may be and recomended me letting the service tech take the car home over night and try to reproduce the problem, but a would rather not.
any ideas on what might be causing this???

not stock.
Ihad a problem with my SLK's front end (before lowering it) that i wanted to have checked / fixed before installing the suspension setup i did. I dropped off my car MANY times at the dealer, with only getting one answe back: Everything is working in order and nothing is wrong, its just the car.
Now, im not stupid, and barely anyone talks down to me on cars, so I went to the dealer on an early saturday, I spoke to the shop manager and got there "suspension specialist" (which thankgod was a very nice & understanding fellow, nothing compared to the other sales / service *****s) to take a ride with me for about half an hour, I reproduced all the things I felt and explained to him in depth why it was important to me to get these things fixed.

Dealers and service shops rarely drive / turn / corner the car as hard as some owners due while doind some spirited drivine or while on the track, which is what many of these cars were intended for (to be driven hard)..so they cant really reproduce your problems and more oftend when they cant find anything wrong they rather tell you everything is fine before saying they dont know. In my case, it ended up being a bad drag-link, and some other small thing, we think they are related to some "curb" accident my sister had when this car was her's. cheap to repair, and made a WORLD of difference....you just have to help them "identify" it....take your time during a saturday and im sure youl figure it out without having to let a stranger take over your car for a an entire day or two.

Could be a balancing issue. Had a similar problem with a 2002 S500: vibration above 80 mph. Although it did not sound as severe as you described it, it was still obvious. Check to make sure wheels are properly bolted, first. Then take to shop to have wheels balanced (make sure to use proper metric weights). I know this is hard to do with a machine like that, but until the issue is fully resolved, drive the car very softly.

have a quick look underneath if possible and on the steering rack u should see a shock absorber, if this is leaking it will cause the car to vibrate but i would say that it would do this all the time rather than stopping when u do and restart your journey! bit vague but all i can think off top of my head

LS7 powered Corvette
The heat created by the biturbo engine can really distort the rubber/hydraulic mounts of the front end. Seems like the extended drive/heat is the only thing that causes it. Coldn't tell you what it is over the net though.

I want to thank all of you that took the time to write, we still do not know what the problem is and as stated above the shop only says that everything is A ok.
That seems to be all they can do, oh and I always tell them not to wash my cars for any reason, but my wife just arrived from the dealer and it is washed.
maybe I will request to stand over them and babysit there sorry asses next time I take it in for service..... sorry just needed to vent

well let me try and help. sounds to me like one of the calipers are dragging. ive never seen it but i just talked to a buddy of mine that is a bmw tech and he had this problem. they drove the car all over and finaly it happen. the best tool to check it with is a raytec gun. you just point and shoot and it tells you the temp of what ever your pointing it at. drive the car and after this starts happening stop and check the temp of the rotor and caliper, compair it to the other side and see if there is any differance. i would bet there will be. on a side note, i asked him was there any vibration under normal braking and he said no. he just replaced the caliper and it was fixed.
he said the rotor was fine and didnt have to change it. so good luck and i hope this helps. get back to me, i would like to know if this fixes it so i will know if i ever run into this problem.

well as crazy as it may sound, I took it in for a noise in the right front brakes and since I got it back it has not done it yet.
I am not sure why it was making the noise, but now that you explained what your friend told you to look for it may have been related.
I will keep you posted and thank you
