Any wiring to be concerned about when installing dead pedal on W203?

I think that I finally found a decent dead pedal for my car. Anything to be concerned about when installing?

TIA.

where's the pic or link?

does it screw into the base? i thought someone once posted that there is a piece of styrofoam under the carpet and then the base of the car - so no wiring to really worry about.

i would just put some silicone where the screws go thru the floor base.

Did I say that I was going to post a pic or link?

I'm going to do some test fittings with it first, then will post info. No use posting something that won't work, eh?

I can't stand the carpeting being there on its own.

If anything, post info on the product.

You migth want to cut tiny holes where the screws are going to go through the carpet with an exacto knife. If you drill straight through the carpet you might catch a fiber and unweave a spot or row of carpet. If seen it happen!

Tommy,
I took the kick panel off and pulled the carpet back to see what was behind the dead pedal area. I have a picture somewhere but, it doesn't show much. Anyway, that built-up area where the dead pedal *should* be is all foam. Behind the foam is space then the firewall. If I remember correctly, there is a wire harness that runs in the corner formed by the firewall, floor, and kickpanel. Unless you get crazy with the drill- you shouldn't worry about the harness. It's way in the corner. Don't go any farther than 1/2 to 1" deep just to be safe.

The problem here is there is nothing solid to screw into. The foam is inches thick. The carpet has a thin plastic backing that could prvide some support from fastener tear-out. I would suggest trying some barbed-type fasteners like the ones used on interior trim pieces. Another idea I had was to use some aggressive drywall/plaaster fasteners. Not the black ones you use on sheetrock, but the wierd looking ones that have an auger for a thread. Next time I'm at Home Depot I'll find out what they're called.

When people here talking about the "dead pedal" they are referring to the space where you put your left foot when not using the other pedals (under/behind the parking brake). The dead pedal is not a pedal at all, but more like a foot rest. In the W203 this foot-rest area is covered by nothing but soft carpet, thats why some people would like to cover it with something - a dead pedal. Hope this clarified a little bit.

Oy, you people with your incessant questions.

OK, go to www.uucmotorwerks.com , choose "New Products", and they're right there. That's right - it's heresy - I'm planning on using a dead pedal for a 3 series.

Dimensions are roughly 11" by 3 1/3" (not listed on site). Will require some modification, I think, if I can decide on how to mount it (in the non-biblical way).

And yes, UUC is the company that's going to hopefully be finishing up the project ccoupe short shift kit at some point, and use the Smurfmobile as a test mule. Look for product development updates!
