Turbo Noise Wolfwhistle
Hi
I drive a 2002 ML270 Cdi. It currently has 110000km on the clock. I bought it 2nd hand about a year ago at 67000km, and it always had some minor degree of a whistling noise from the engine - this I was told is the turbo.
Over the last week or two this whistle has turned into a witches screech, but only at reasonably slow acceleration. When accelerating hard, it goes through a slight whistle and then perfectly quiet. On the open road it appears to be quiet as well. After driving it hard, it also appears to be less noisy.
Has anyone else had similar problems/experiences with whistling noises coming from the engine compartment? Hopefully this is not the turbo unit needing replacement, as the price quoted by MB here in South Africa is about R28,000.00 or $3,878.00
