2002 C230K coupe: engine does not start, gear selector stuck in parking

2002 C230K coupe auto 70K
Does anyone know what I should check first, when after about 3 weeks of inactivity my engine does not start and gear selector stuck in parking? Battery seems fine.

When you say does not start- how? does the key turn? does anything happen? How are you determining the battery is ok?

If the shifter is bad, it can take down communication between the engine control module causing the car not to start. When you turn on the key, and leave it on for a few seconds does the engine cooling fan turn on? A indication that the shifter is bad is that in the instrument cluster when is shows whether you are in park/drive ect...the indicator is blank
