Tried A pillar removal and - oh no.......

Hello. I wanted to line the A pillars on my 2005 SL500 with a suede material like they have on the newer SL55s. I tried removing the covering on the A pillar and chickened out after getting it half off. I tried for an hour to get it back in the clips but couldn't get it all the way back in. Any tips on doing this scary removal and replacement? If I new of a guy here on Long Island who could do it I would gladly turn it over to him. Thanks for any help.

Thanks. I tried hitting the top back in but I just can't get it to line up with the clip at the top. Pretty scary stuff.

I am going to a local guy who does auto interiors. Does anyone else have experience with taking the A pillar cover out and putting it back in? Thanks.

Done hundreds of them
Its just a matter of linning up all the clips, make sure they are secure and in the right place then use the ball of your hand to "snap" the piller into place.
Also check the outer seal is not caught up under the pannel as this would not allow the pannel to position correctly.

Thanks! I appreciate the advice. I did keep taking the seal out so it wouldn't get in the way. For some damn reason I can't get the highest clip lined up! The clips don't slide along the frame of the car do they? I know the clip on the removable covering is fixed. Thanks again.

the clips should have a little retaining area on the body. put them in there first then it is easier to align them with the pannel. you should see little scatches where the clips went origninally.

Since you're replacing them, carefull study of the new part often reveals how to remove the old one.

Wink

I am actually not replacing them but having them covered with alcantara material like they have on the a pillars of the SL55. I love that look!
