2001 E320 Key: Radio Transmitter Not Working
Any info available on repairing the transmitter in these keys? The key works when close to the car and aimed at the door, but not when further away.

I agree with Kent, first try replacing the batteries ($5.95 for a pair of 2025 watch batteries at the jewelry counter at WalMart).
I suppose there is also a possibilty that the lens is dirty on your key so also try to clean that end of it with mild soap and water but be careful to not get the inside of the key wet.
I bought one of the new chrome keys and for whatever reason, it has a better range than either of my older ones (2001) that came with my used car.
