97 E 420 Needs Front Brakes

Hi All,

I am new to the forum. I have a 1997 E 420 that needs a front brake job. I would prefer to do it myself vs. having the dealership charge me $398.50. I have changed brakes on Hondas and Fords before, but never a MB. I want to order the pads and rotors on the web. Best sites? What brands? Next, does anyone have a general step-by-step guide on doing brakes for the E420? I have looked through some of the forums archives, but have not found any one explantion that I feel comfortable with. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks,
Mike

Mercedes USA produces a W210 service DVD that nicely details how to change brake pads (rotors, too if you need them). At your dealer or by calling 800.for.merc

This DVD lists part numbers for "fast moving" parts and you can then plug them in here
http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...?siteid=213951
and get genuine parts.

If your fronts are like my '01 E320, you may need a 7mm allen driver for your 3/8 ratchet, a size you may not have.

I just replaced my old rotors and pads with brembo slotted rotors and hawk pads I bought at tirerack.com (there's a toll-free# and ask for Jason - very knowledgeable) - hawk pads provide little brake dust, great performance and inexpensive. Good luck!

check out this recent thread in relation to brake work.
