450 sl

I have a 76 450sl, 105 k miles. How many speed transmisson do I have ? 3-4? Car runs at 3,000 rpms a 80 mph. Is that too high? caran

I owned a '73 450SL and it had a 3-speed automatic transmission. As compared to more modern drivetrains, I do recall the car ran higher in the RPM scale driving down the interstate. I do not think 3,000 RPM at 80 mph for your vintage vehicle is out of the ordinary, especially if you have a 3-speed automatic. Simply count the number of forward gears on the selector. Mine was easy: D-2-1. I assume the '76 is similar.
