traction control

was wondering about how the traction control "adapts" to new rims. does the system need to "learn" how to ride on larger (or smaller) rims.

i used to have a 99 e430, and it used to have a set of 99 sl 600 wheels on and when i took it off, the traction control seemed a bit off. since then i haven't noticed and weird things, but to be safe i just want to verify the above stated inquiry. thanks.

Traction control as well as anti lock brake systems are "counting" wheel turns and compare them relative to each individual wheel. If you change tire sizes then the counts vary as soon as the circumference changes. Of corse there is some "foregiveness" since the tire wear has to be acounted for too. However I dont know the tolerances for those systems, and how they would accept extreme differences in rim/tire sizes between front axle and rear axle. Maybe a MB dealer, or a rim/tire specialist would know those values.
