Unhappy A140 indicator problem, maybe cluster

hi all
i have a problem with my wifes a140 a few weeks ago the small ind arrow in the cluster stopped working, but the indicator was working fine on the outside, a few days later the ind stopped working outside, this was all on the driverside, and now the small arrow in the cluster for the passenger side has stopped working but the outside ind r still fine. Have taken it to mb dealer and they have checked and come up with that it could be the cluster but their not sure, as they have told me that the cluster is about £400+ 3hrs to fit and code and it is a non refundable product and their only 50% sure its that.

The Q i need answer is this: the part no for my cluster is 168 5404211 can anyone tell me if any other part no will fit this car i.e 168 540 9411 or 1685409011 or 1685408211 and can i just fit a second hand cluster to c if it corrects the ind problems, if so i can get mb to order and fit new.

Also whats the coding thing for, do all need to be coded and what deos it do?

All help would be very appreiciated, and thanx for taking the time to read this.

Just so you know, there are individual replaceable bulbs on the back of the instrument cluster that could just be bad. Each turn signal light in instrument cluster has its own bulb.

I would also support the idea of fixing the indicator lamps if that appears feasible (as it should). Anyway from the part numbers you list, others are for A140 (Japanese models) except the last one has only been used on an A160 (don't know what the difference is and if it would still fit).

But it may not be straightforward to switch the IC on a modern car. Didn't see details for an A-class but this would likely be a dealer job with SDS.
