2003 Clk 500
xenon light problem
Looking for some help. I have a 2003 clk500 with the xenon lights. I've been to the the dealer three times so far, going on my fourth visit. Replaced the right xenon bulb, replaced the ballast, replaced the SAM unit. The light still will not consistently work. When I turn my lights on, it either works fine or does not work at all. How can I resolve this problem? Thanks for your help.

There is a wiring modification for the headlamps. The wiring to the headlamp has poor contacts. The dealer should be able to find this for you. Best to do both sides at the same time

Sounds like bad wiring / relay type issue indeed!

I'll check the part numbers for you when I get back to work next week. What model and year are youre vehicles?

That would be awesome, and much appreciated! Mine is a 1999 CLK 320 (Canada, if that matters).
On a somewhat related note, I've been reading conflicting responses as to whether my car would have the auto-levelling headlight system or not?
Thanks again,

All MB cars with xenons from the factory have auto-levelling. You would notice it from the fact that you don't have the manual head lights level control dial switch next to the lights switch. Cars with xenon lights should come with washers too.

Then that should confirm that I have them... I don't have any manual adjustment inside the car, and I do have the nozzles in the bumper as well.
Question is, how exactly do I know if they're working or not?! They were WAY off when I bought the car, and so I manually adjusted them using the knobs on the lamps themselves. What throws me off though is that when I'm on a bumpy road for example, the lights bounce around with the front-end of the car, whereas I would assume that 'auto-levelling' ones would continue to remain level regardless of the travel of the car's suspension??
Any suggestions on how to diagnose? Thanks for all the help!

Sorry for the delayed reply.
Check the sticker on the top of the headlights for the build date of the lights. For the 209 any light assemblies built after 28.4.03 then the usual light diagnosis path applies.
For all assemblies built prior to 28.4.03 then there is a known fault with the ignition module. The replacement part number of the ignition module is A203 820 1112 05 (1 per side) and solder connector A002 546 1341 (3 per side).
The new module needs to have the wires soldered into the old wiring.
This only recitifies lamps that intermitantly aren't working, when they perminately don't work then you need to ensure that all other components are functioning first.
