dashlights on 83 240d
Hi everyone,
The dash lights on my "new" 83 240d are incredibly dim. I play with the rheostat and if I fiddle carefully I can get from off to a glimmer. The glimmer is uniform suggesting that all of the bulbs are working. When I passed inspection the mechanic thought the problem might be dirty connectors and so cleaned everything in there. I am wondering if it is the rheostat itself that is dying. Is there any way to test the rheostat to identify it as the problem? Any thoughts?
thank you for your help,
Deidre

It changes all the time
This item has been covered many times on many boards. The problem comes from failing plastic components. They get dinggy. Some have bought new instrument clusters, and some have coverted to LEDs. It's a problem to all 123 owners including yours truly. I don't feel like going to all the trouble of new lighting, so I just live with it, but then again, I don't drive my wagon much anymore.
