Exclamation Engine Mounts: NEED HELP! 1998 E320 (car on blocks now!)

I'm in a state of severe frustration!

Right now my 1998 E320 (W210) is up on stands so that I can replace my motor mounts. Here's what I've done so far:

1. Put front end up on drive-on ramps
2. Disconnected battery
3. Removed top engine shroud (pop-off cover)
4. Removed lower engine shroud
5. Disconnected A/C compressor and slid forward out of the way
6. Located top bolt for driver's side mount (USA version car)
7. Banged knuckles trying to free top bolt
8. Threw wrench back into toolbox and cursed up a storm

My frustration is getting to this bolt!! I have tried everything. I have purchased a 16mm Craftsman wrench with closed-end ratchet (72-tooth fine ratcheting for $23USD). Still, I can't seem to get enough play in the wrench to turn the bolt. Is there a special tool I should go buy?? I tried to find a stubby, but how can that give me enough leverage??? It's driving me crazy!!

I consider myself a good backyard mechanic and this job does not intimidate me, but this bolt has got me stumped! What is the easiest way to get it out?

HELP!!!

Use A Short Wrench 16mm Or 17mm Depends Which Size,,and Use A Pry Bar Against The Wrench And Pry Clockwise If Looking From The Bottom Use The Levrage To Break The Bolt Loose, Good Luck

You say a short wrench, do you mean a stubby kind of wrench? Do I find a regular wrench with open and box ends and not the ratchet one I have? Is this the normal way everyone does it? People are saying it takes less than 2 hours to do this job, but its taking me much longer due to this bolt.

Thanks for the quick reply....can you be more specific on what wrench to use and are there two different sizes?? 16 or 17mm?

Try 17mm, Box End Wrench About 6 Inches Long, The Ratchet Wrench Should Be Just Fine, You Put The Wrench In Place And With A Long Pry Bar, Pry Against The Wrench To Break Loose The Bolt

Job Done!

It took some cracked knuckles, but I finally got them loose with my Craftsman 16mm fine-ratcheting wrench and a pry bar to use as a leverage bar. All I have to say is even though it took all day...it was worth saving $500 from the local Mercedes stealer.
