2002 c240
Unhappy Fuel Gauge failed

Hi I just bought a 2002 Mercedes C240 mileage 75000 and when I filled up the gauge dropped to empty and will not work anyone else having this problem and know the cause

It's often the sender in the fuel tank. A mechanic can confirm.

03 E500 and Corvette
Yes,, high sulphur fuel will cause this problem. There were many claims 3 years ago when Shell/Chevron sold high sulphur fuel causing many fuel gauges to fail. Some of the Corvette folks found that if you let the tank run about to 1/2 to 3/4 full and add Techron it would clean up and correct the problem. This was a major refinery phu pa.

Thank you I will try that and will change gas stations all else fails its still under warranty

Also will that make the car Idle rough ???

The high sulphur made it to my corvette and boat tank (100 gal). I didn't notice any engine roughness, but keep in mind the corvette doesn't have the smoothest idle as it does have performance parts on it and is driven on the track.

The boat is a 2 cycle engine and I didn't notice anything there. But being 35miles off shore and not knowing your fuel level is a really big deal.
