Headlamp delay timer feature not working

I have an 03 C-class. A brake light went out and I replaced it with the equivalent bulb and it works fine, however, now when I set the headlight-off delay they go off immediately anyway. I don't see a connection here, or is it just coincidence?

Thanks to all who reply,

Dom

Did you follow the instructions as listed in your manual and verified all required settings and positions?

Sorry all. I must be really stupid! For what it's worth, the delayed headlights feature only works when the light switch is set to "auto". I found out the hard way!!
