1982 300D Transmission gone
Can anybody give me advice on what to do with my 1982 300D? I bought it last summer with 328k miles on it. It has run well, is actually in great shape (virtually no rust on body, most of the electrical works) and has been a daily driver for my wife.
However, last week the transmission went--mechanic says it needs to be stripped apart, very expensive... talking a minimum of $1400 labor and could be as much as $4000...
I was planning on selling the car by the end of the summer when we will no longer need it. My debate is whether to invest in a rebuilt transmission or try and sell it to someone who would like to fix it up. Any idea what it might be worth? I'm in a quandry about what to do. It cost me $2900 originally and it seems tough to invest up to or more than that again. I like the car, but not that much...
