Gas Gauge problem

Hello I am new to this forum and i just purchased a 1996 E320 and when i start the car up my gas will read all most full and then i will go somewhere not even 2 miles and then i will start the car back up and then it is reading empty is there something i am doing wrong? Has anybody had this problem. Because i will try to put more gas in and it will not take, because there is already enough in there?? Should i take it to the dealer or is there something we can check on the car first?

Likely a bad fuel level sending unit. Unfortunately no quick fixes for that one.
