My A/C falls asleep?

Ok here is my situation... it seems asthough my my A/C sometimes falls asleep... it will turn off completly and then after I mess with all the buttons it turns back on... it's the weirdest thing... anyone have an explaination for this? It only happens maybe 2 times a week... I never noticed it in the winter so the issue only seems to happen with the A/C on... it happens at random times sometimes when I first start driving and sometimes after 30 minutes or so. I'm so confused...

Do you mean that it stops cooling or that the fan turns off?

the fans turn off till i play with the buttons for litterally a few seconds... i don't use the auto-climate control so it's not an issue with that

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
With

these two on the hood the a/c can't keep up and has to shut down to cool off.
All kidding aside since you don't have the digital climate control like the E series, you can't run any onboard diagnostics to get sensor values and errors.
Time to get it on the SDS at an indie shop that has one.Call around and find a good mb shop (non dealer)that has the star diagnostic and they will find the problem.Might be just a faulty climate control module.
Stuck duo valve ,faulty evap sensor, several other things it could be and the only way to find out is the sds. or a trip to an automotive a/c specialist

Sounds like the button assembly. I don't have any experience with that model, but an earlier S-class of mine did the same and they replaced the switch unit to fix it.

Sounds like the blower motor regulator or a/c control panel. See what fault code you get out of the A/C and go from there, the blower motor usually leaves codes.

we hardly ever see pushbuttons go bad, it is most likely coincidental that the fan turns back on when you play with the buttons. most likely it is the blower reg. the blower regulator will shut down the motor if it sees too much amperage or blower speed (not sure how it knows the latter). it is true that a faulty blower regulator will set a fault code but 9/10 of all c-classes have that fault code with no customer complaints. measure the amperage of the blower motor- should be under 38A at full pop. there is an updated blower regulator that has a little more 'headroom' for blower amperage draw. as always my recommendation is to have it properly diagnosed and aviod throwing expensive parts at it- just as ausmbtech states.
