Cl 500 Fuel Door

If anyone can help? I have my 2003 CL500 for a week. I love it. I pulled up to the gas pump and the fuel door was raised. It would not stay down after a closer look I saw that a triangular "t" shaped piece had broken off. It appears that this piece wedges into a slot. Is this all that keeps it closed? Does anyone have any repair suggestions? PLease Help?

The door is kept closed by a spring that's integral with the fuel cap storage slot. The piece you're describing sounds more like the locking mechanism, which is not involved in keeping the door closed.

Ditto "whoover's" reply. I looked at the fuel filler door on my 2003 CL500. There is a 1 1/4" x 1" tab that is part of the filler door. It has a hole at the small end that receives a locking pin when the car is locked. As this piece is part of the filler door a replacement filler door may be necessary.

The rubber leash that attaches the cap to the car has a habit of not rotating when you close the gas door. It keeps it from closing. Just turn it with your finger so it's not in the way. For a more permanent fix, drill out the hole in the leash a bit.

Thanks for the informaiton. I played with the door a couple of times and then it started to close normally. Must have plastic cord from the gas cap.

Turn the rubber teather so it is on top- then fuel door will close properly.
