Warranty Work

Hey guys I am new to this board. I just took my 2002 S-430 to the dealer because the breaks make so much noise that its embrassing. Whether I am reversing the car or stopping at a red light. Everyone looks at me. Wondering if this would be covered under the warranty? The car only has 13,000 miles on it. Secondly for anyone in the Northern Virginia area, any of you guys had experience with HBL Dealership? Thanks guys

Squeeling Brakes

Definitely a warranty problem...keep on them until they stop squeeling.

2002 S-430
Hey guys got my car back. The said that they sanded down the rotors and used a $90.00 lube kit for the braking system. Although the brakes sound better they still squeal and yes they squeal anytime i come to stop at a red light or at high speeds. not sure whether i should take it back in or not. They didnt charge me anything so far.

if it's a warantee problem, why should he keep them on? Go to your dealership and have them take a look at it. If it's your brake pads, then unforunately, it's going to be wear and tear, which won't be covered. Do you use your brakes HARD? If you do, this could be the cause. Or have you recently changed rims/bolts?

Had a similar problem with my ML500. After numerous attempts to fix by replacing pads and rotors dealer installed new type pads that solved the problem. All under warranty. Have never had this issue with my 01 E320.

henry47...keep them on?

I didn't say 'keep them on'...I said (paraphrased) "make the dealer permanently stop the squealing brakes"!

2002 S-430
Guys took the car back today. They told me that they are going to replace the rotors, brake pads and some other brake stuff on all four sides. Even though the noise is coming from the front. Since the car has more than 12,000 miles they said they may not cover it under warranty. They told me its going to cost me $1600.00 to get the work done. But the dealer just left a message saying that they will cover it under warranty. My question is on a 2002 car with only 14,000 miles should I be worried or is this normal? Alot of work on a $80,000 car to be done so soon after purchase.

Worried?

Noisy and dusty brakes on German cars is common. But you don't have to put up with it. Keep going back until they make the noise stop. $1600 to replace all rotors and pads is too much....you can get aftermarket pads that do not produce much dust and drilled or slotted rotors all for under $500 and have them installed for less than $100

You're getting taken advantage of. Front pads are probably due to be replaced at 14,000 miles, but that's it. Front rotors are good for about 2 sets of pads, rear pads and rotors naturally last much longer. Unless you use your S-Class as a San Francisco taxicab, there's no way you could have worn out all pads and rotors so soon.
