1998 E 320 4matic Questions
I just posted the same thread in the w210 section, but I'm wondering if I might get some answers here (time is important since I have a deposit in on the vehicle and am trying to make up my mind...)
1998 E320 4matic (40k miles, Starmarked, will be extending to 100k):
-Any worries with this being the first year of the V-6 in the 210?
-Any 4matic worries? That is, since this was the first year of the 4matic in the 210, were there any known problems associated with the combination of the V-6 and the 4matic in 1998 in this chassis?
-Was the 1998 E320 4matic badged as such, or is it as my salesman said that "some of them did not say '4matic' on the rear decklid"? The vehicle's original window sticker (and all other associated paperwork like dealer records, etc.) say that the vehicle is an AWD sedan. I do not think MB Manhattan would sell a fake 4matic, but who knows

Although I haven't heard anything significant, my '98 goes through sensors every other week. But the Starmarking will cover you completely except for normal wear items. I had a '95 C280 that was starmarked. I had some big items go (like head gaskets), but the coverage was excellent.
I really really wish I had sprung for it on the E, now that I'm out of warranty.
You'll be fine with it.

Yeah, yeah, it's me. During the semester I am actually too busy responding to my students' emails to scan MBworld...
Anyway, I wasn't sure what year you had, RB. Do you have 4matic? If yes, is it so marked on the trunk?
New Years Resolution for 2003 was: declare my independence from my parents. Sure way to do that: give Dad back the Benz, buy my own.
6.9 is still sitting in the driveway, though it actually passed inspection! Looked at a 1995 E500 yesterday. Decided that Starmark and 4matic were more important than the V-8...

Don't let work get in the way of your commitment to Mbworld. I've gotten this down to a science.
I don't have the 4-matic, but otherwise they're pretty similar (aside from the v-8). The v6 in that car will be rock solid. The trans is more suspect, though the warranty removes that doubt.
