The ME control unit is the engine control unit. It's specific to the engine/year model/emissions equipment, etc of your car.

I forgot to mention earlier, dont fall into the trap of buying a used on off ebay or anyone else. They are VIN specific to the vehicle, so they cannot just be swapped from say one S500 to another. There are some places that can reset the module to make them be able to work, just make sure it is a reputable shop.
