Running Problem/cutting out (1996 C200 Esprit)
I have been having a problem with my 1996 C200.
Since I have owned the car, I have noticed that if you apply full throttle whilst in a relatively high gear for the speed (eg, say doing 40MPH in 4th at around 1600RPM or say doing 1500RPM IN 5th etc) it will sometimes lurch backwards and cut out power. This can become most annoying for example when entering the motorway or overtaking etc. The weird thing is, it only happens when applying full throttle and labouring the engine slightly. If you feather up the power more gently, you could wind it up gently all the way to 6000+ RPM , in any gear or at any speed.
When it suffers the probelm, it suddenly kicks as it cuts out power/dies, and will not pick up any power or revs until you lift your foot off the throttle and re-apply the power.
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?
PS, it has been serviced (new plugs/oil/filter/air filter/fuel filter etc) and this made no difference. However I did think that recently after changing the oil to a 0/40W Mobil 1 it had gone, but after driving a few hundred miles it has happened again!
