E320 WGN 4MATIC (W210)
1999 E320 Front Right Drive Axle Problem

Vehicle Make - Mercedes Benz
Vehicle Model- E-320 4Matic Wagon
Vehicle Year- 1999
Approximate mileage- 95,000 miles

Recently purchased and found CV boot joints torn. Thought it would be better (easier) to replace axle. Dealer told me that I need the PN2103300601 R ($1180). I recently purchased a replacement axle from OP Parts (Chinese aftermarket $112) on www.europartsdirect.com and it lists one axle for both part numbers. I bought it but it keeps popping out of the gearbox. Both times it was after about twenty minutes of driving. Once making a left turn, and once on the highway. Both cases it has been 19 degrees outside.

Can anyone tell me why?

Can anyone tell me what the physical difference between the two part numbers for the right front drive axle on a 1999 E320 4MATIC Wagon?

2103300601 R - Right Front Axle -
All E320 4Matic to 06/99
2103301001 R - Right Front Axle - All E320 4Matic from 06/99

Really want to get the car back into shape. Not sure if I have a bad part or something wrong with the differential. Ideas?

In another forum I was told that there is a 5mm difference in the automatic vs. manual. that does not seam to be the issue.

This is the scoop - wrong part number listed. Because of my experience (www.europartsdirect.com) they discovered that they had the wrong part number listed for my 1999 E320 4MATIC. In 1999 they had a transition for the part. They now list a new part number the same as the 2000. 1998 Axle is too short (.25-.5) hard to tell exactly and that is what they sent me. This of course is for the right front axle. The left axle is still working, but I have only but 50 miles on it. I was surprised that it has already started to RUST, I did drive through snow and salt, but it was a little shocking.

Additionally, Euro Parts Direct has been excellent. I have bought several other components from them and have been very happy. I also like www.partsgeek.com.

What's the warranty? On mb parts it's 1yr unlimited miles and all you do is take it to a MB dealer and they replace it under warranty even if you installed the part yourself. Here's another good one... if you need a battery call MB roadside, they will come out and install the battery, all you pay for is the battery the labor is free!
