Cold weather and Mercedes

A question on another forum started me thinking about this. Do Mercedes' engines have freeze plugs?

Believe that all engine block castings have freeze plugs. They are used to cap holes that are used in the manufacturing process and should remain in place with no problems for the life of the engine.

Unless you live in Iqaluit, Nunavut, Canada, the factory anti-freeze will obviate the need for frost plugs When the car gets older, frequent coolant changes are advised.

Just stating the patently obvious

Yes, the engine blocks have freeze plugs. I've seen one leak on a 5.0 V8, but that's the only failure I've experienced.

The reason I was asking is because a member of a very small MB forum may not have checked the anti-freeze in his older car, and possibly cracked the block. From his description, it sounds like there is water in the oil. The car had been parked for several weeks in cold weather. I realize freeze plugs don't necessarily prevent the block from cracking.
