Wiring Harness

Hello Everyone!! Well I just got done dealing with the MB dealership and after alot of discussion with the service manager they sold me the wiring harness for $180.00, that was with the "goodwill" from Mercedes Benz and they are letting me install it......however my question arises....are the new harness' any better than the old ones, or will it be expected for me to replace it again in 100k miles or so?

Thanks for the help, Chris

PS...if you have not already done so still complain to the NHSTA if yoo have had a wiring harness problem!

Chris,
For what car are you replacing the wire harness? I am thinking of replacing mine as well. is the $180 a special price for you/your car or is that the regualr dealer price? Are you replacing it yourself or taking it somewhere to do it? I didn't realize it is a simple task to replace the wire harness, is it? thanks for all your answers in advanse.

I replaced my engine wiring harness for my 94 e320. I dont know about the e420 but my model in particular has a known problem with the wiring harness decaying and creating all sorts of problems(mine wouldnt run when it was wet outside!). The cost of the harness is 360.00 and odd change with all of my complaining, bringing in printouts of different forums discussing the same problems, pulling off NHSTB complaints and calling the regional office they(MB) agreed to split the cost fo the harness which was 180(retail is around 600). I installed myself however it took about 6hrs to do it, as i was pulling it off my connectors just crumbled nessistating replacement above the harness itself. Its not "simple" but its not hard either mostly time consuming.
Hope this helps.

Chris

Thanks Chris

I must say that MB are the best cars EXCEPT for their wiring and electrical problems (which I hear are common on all their cars up to 2002 and i don't know about 2003 yet). This is a great car, but it's about time to get the electrical issues under control. I can say the same about my car, I am afraid to touch any wire because it'll crumple in my fingers...
