"Pinking" Noise
Hello all, I've had some great advice on here before so thought I'd try again
I have a 1997 E240 estate. When accelerating hard I get a slight pinking noise. I am able to accelerate gently without this happening. I have spoken to a couple of people who don't know the car who say it is likely to be a pre-ignition/timing issue
Any ideas, and what do I need to do. I am not particularly mechanically minded but do have a reasonable friendly tame mechanic, but I'd quite like to go to him pre-armed with the information
Thanks
Richard

1) timing too advanced
2) knock sensor defective or associated components
3) Fuel octane too low
4) heavy carbon build up resulting in higher compression
5) Fuel mixture too lean resulting in high cylinder temperatures
