MBTech208 or Anyone, Steering Noise
Hello All,
I have a 2003 E500 and the steering makes like a hissing sound when it is turned fully and held in either direction. I can't accurately describe the noise but it only occurs when the engine is not completely warmed up. After it is fully warmed up, the sound is none existant. I tested the steering noise on a smooth and clean surface. Please test your steering when the engine is first turned on in the morning or before it is fully warmed up and turn the steering all the way to either direction and hold the steering to the end and listen with your window down. I hear like this noise that I really can't describe (maybe a hissing sound?) and will not go away until I turn the steering wheel away from the maximum point.
Thanks for all yor help!

Two possibilities for the noise when engine is cold. First is the under the fully turned wheels the load (of the ps unit) on the belt is high and it may slip, or secondly the cold power steering fluid, under full pressure (when turned to the extrems) causes the noises. Both nothing to worry about unless the belt is really loose and needs tensioning. But I guess it's just an anoying noise, especially not knowing what the cause may be.
