Jerking Problem

I recently had to replace the starter on my 95 E200. When I got it back from the mechanic I noticed that it jerks constantly. It jerks at 20km/h then at 40km/h and then at 60 km/h. Once its over 60 its very smooth. What could have possibly gone wrong? Is it a serious problem?
Please help me out.

Hard to understrand what you describing. What do you mean by "jerking". The starter should not do anything after the engine has been started. As soon the engine take up speed the starter gets mechanically completely disengaged. If it would kick back in, this should make a terrible noise, since the starter's tooth wheel (at zero speed) tries to catch up with the engine's tooth wheel which runs at motorspeed. It does this sveral times and both toothwheels will soon be "toothless". But I doubt this is what you experience.

Well, jerking as in the entire car jerks. Especially at the rear of the car. I don't think the starter should have anything to do with this but I'm just suspecting. The mechanic told me that he had also repaired a broken tube near the engine. Now the engine is a lot quieter. Could this have led to the jerking problem?

an other guess is the automatic transmission is shifting very rough, which can be a serious problem. The tube repaired and silencing the car might be the muffler???

I don't think i'll repair it. I've spent well over $4000 in repairing it in less than a year. I don't think I'll ever buy a Mercedes.
