for the 722 trans i know that you are to check the fluid at 80 C using the sds.

i have seen some people use the laser thermo. at the pan to get the temp.

wondering how accurate that is?

I've done neither.

Mine has been fine just replacing the same amount as was removed, going for a 10-20 mile drive, checking fill level and topping off as needed. I've typically added .2 to .3L more than was removed when adjusting up to the 80C mark. Probably accounts for whats left in the drain pan, spillage, etc.
