124 BODY V-8 ENGINE MOUNTS
I RECENTLY NOTED MY 500E MOUNTS HAD FALLEN. PREVIOUS INFORMATION STATED THAT THE ENGINE HAD TO BE RAISED AND VARIOUS COMPONENTS SUCH AS CROSS-OVER PIPE, STEERING LINKAGE ETC. NEED TO BE REMOVED. WHEN IT CAME TIME TO DO THE JOB I FOUND THAT BOTH MOUNTS COULD BE REMOVED FROM THE TOP WITHOUT REMOVING THE AFOREMENTIONED ITEMS. THE FAN SHROUD NEEDS TO BE REMOVED AND BOTH FORWARD EXHAUST MANIFOLDS. THERE ARE 3 SCREWS THAT ARE REMOVED WITH AN 11MM SOCKET AND TWO CONNECTORS TO THE CENTER EXHAUST MANIFOLD. USING THE OPPOSITE SIDE AS PIVOT POINT THE ENGINE CAN BE RAISED ENOUGH TO REMOVE THE MOUNT WITHOUT REMOVING THE ARM CONNECTED TO THE BLOCK. OBVIOUSLY CAUTION MUST BE EXERCISED TO SECURE THE ENGINE IN THE RAISED POSITION. THE RIGHT SIDE REQUIRES THE OIL FILTER HOUSING REMOVAL. I WOULD SUGGEST A FACTORY GASKET TO REPLACE THE FILTER HOUSING AFTER THE MOUNT HAS BEEN CHANGED. ABOUT A 3 HOUR JOB WITH NO FRONT END ALIGNMENT REQUIRED.

Yeah, I've done similar repairs on numerous different cars, domestic and European.
There is often an easier way to do things than the factory-recommended procedure; just ask anyone who's owned e-type Jaguars!
