2006 ML500 Won't shift out of first
Hi All,
I know almost nothing about cars, and it seems like ya'll are geniuses. I'd be much obliged if you could help me.
My '06 ML500 has the electronic shifting system (the lever by the steering wheel that you just click down to put into drive). It also has tiptronic pedals behind the steering wheel.
The car turns on, and the "Check Engine" light comes on, and the car won't shift out of first, neither automatically nor with the tiptronic pedals.
I've noticed that the Parktronic doesn't work anymore either.
Do you have any ideas what could be the problem? My brother took it to the dealer and he mentioned something about having to replace the "wall unit" or "val unit" for $2,500.
It has only 35K miles.
Thank you all!

its not shifting out of gear because its in whats called "limp home" mode which is a default setting built into the transmission computer. This can be caused by quite a few things but in my experience its usually either a defective valve body or you may get away with just replacing the reluctor plate on top of the valve body if its a problem with an rpm sensor, gl
