07 SL550 may need new heads at 26K. Car out of warranty. v.sicktomystomach
My father in laws 07 SL550 has 26K miles on it. Went out of warranty June of 09'. It threw a CE light and smelled bad in Oct. of 09' and our local MB dealership said it needed new plugs
. Father in law said okay. Same issues 1 month ago and now dealership says the #8 cylinder has a valve issue and the heads need to be pulled. Quoted us $10k if new heads need to be installed. ALL services were performed by the MB dealership. He has spent over $250,000 at the place on 4 new MB's over 7 years. The service lady wouldnt even call MB to help us out. Ive now contacted MB and they are gathering info. I cant help to feel that we're gonna get screwed. Yes, its not under warranty any more. But, spending $100K on a car and needing $10k in repair at 26K is
. There is a TSB on that cylinder from May of 09', but that dosent mean anyting according to the MB claims guy I talked to. Im sick to my stomach and I dont even have to potentially flip the bill. Anyone have any suggestions???

Years ago a friend had a Rolls Royce that gave him lots of problems and the dealership was less than helpful.
He hired a local artist to paint lemons all over the car and parked it in the better parts of town (this was in Miami).
The Miami Herald wrote a feature about the car and its owner, complete with photos; a week later RR contacted him about making it better.
Just a thought...

Don't get mad or lose your temper with the MB people that say no. Ask to talk to the region service rep yourself and explain the situation. 26K miles and the heads need to be pulled is
. If the region rep gives you no satisfaction write MB. Your dad shouldn't have to pay anything to get it fixed considering the low mileage so don't let them talk you into "we'll pay for labor you pay for parts" or vice versa.

just curious, a 2007 model should be under warranty until 2012, not 2009. And yes, the dealer is screwing u guys, as others have said, talk to a regional rep..

Verdict is in. Car needs new heads. One bad cylinder on each head. The service rep at the dealership will be contacting the regional rep today to see who is going to cover what. Gonna get interesting.
djamer. Car was purchased in June of 2006. 4 yr/50K factory warranty.

$10,700 to replace both heads. They are offering to cover $7200. So $3500 for us to cover. They wouldnt budge or go back to MBUSA to ask for more. Did not authorize any steps to be taken. Gonna explore all options and see what happens.
