Car Won't Start

I have a 2002 S500. This morning when I tried to start with my key, it started but the gear box was locked. I then shut off the engine and tried to start the car but it would turn over and die. I then tried to use the key to lock and unlock the doors but it would not work. I then used another key and the other key works (starts, lock and unlock the doors). Do you think it's because the first key is not in sync with the car? If so, how do I reprogram the key to sync with the car. Thanks

security

sounds like the ignition key security to me, it isnt recognizing the keys or not authorizing them.

shifter stays locked = wrong key or key not authorized, they use the shifter lock on this model not a steering wheel lock.

may not be a key problem, could be with the electronic ignition switch or another control module.

your dealer should recognize the problem straight away.
